Object Still Lifes

Inspired by 17th Century Vanitas Paintings

My object still lifes are visual storytelling or visual poetry. In The Dutch Golden Age still lifes had symbolic meaning. Every object, inanimate or animate, symbolized something. The majority of my still lifes don’t have symbolic meaning. When I create a still life I’m more interested in mood and atmosphere or colour. But stylistically I’m very inspired by 17th Century still lifes. Occasionally I create object still lifes that are more directly inspired by traditional vanitas and memento mori still life paintings.
